Every United States Pergola is the same American-made aluminum frame underneath. What changes is what goes across the top, and that single choice decides how much sun you get, what happens when it rains, and whether the space works in February as well as it does in April. Here is what each roof actually does.
Aluminum louvers run the length of the roof and turn on their own bearings, from wide open to shut tight, at the touch of a button. Open them and you get breeze and dappled light. Angle them and you cut the sun without losing the sky. Close them and the blades seal edge to edge, sending rain into the beam's built-in gutters and down through the posts.
It is the only one of the three that lets the same square of deck be a sun trap at ten in the morning and dry cover at four in the afternoon. Add rain and wind sensors and it makes that call for you while you are at work.
Open-beam construction: solid beams run across the frame a foot apart and stay where they are put. You get the striped, moving shade a pergola has always been about, the pattern travelling across the floor as the day goes on.
Nothing motorized, nothing to power, nothing to service. It is the simplest thing we build and the one that disappears most easily into a garden. Rain passes through, so it defines and shades a space rather than sealing it.
A sealed insulated panel roof with no gaps at all. Full shade underneath at every hour, and rain that never reaches the table. The panel gives you a real ceiling, so fans, lights and heaters mount straight into it instead of hanging off a beam.
This is the one that turns a patio into a room you use in any weather. Pair it with screens and it becomes the part of the house everyone ends up in, whatever the forecast is doing.
